CATCH UP WITH AQHA AT CONGRESS! GEORGIA IS NO. 1 IN COACHES POLL The collegiate coaches competing under the Varsity Equestrian Championship umbrella initiated the national poll. The poll will be released bi-monthly with the next announcement scheduled for October 14. The final poll will be released April 21, 2009. Georgia scored 63 points in the balloting of a panel of head coaches and equine experts. The Dawgs are two points better than No. 2 Auburn, which had 61. South Carolina is in third place in the poll with 56 points, followed by Texas A&M (45) and Oklahoma State (40). The second five of the Top 10 poll begins with Baylor in sixth place with 31 points, followed by Kansas State (29), Fresno State (15), TCU (14) and New Mexico State (13). REINERS CHANGE NOMINATION The Futurity/Derby Nomination Program begins with 2008 foals and consists of a $300 one-time weanling nomination fee. This fee makes nominated foals eligible to enter the NRHA Futurity as 3-year-olds, and the NRHA Derby as 4-, 5- and 6-year-olds. At that time, all other applicable entry and judges fees will apply. The nomination fee for 2008 foals must be in the NRHA office by December 31, 2008. After December 31, the nomination fee jumps to $2,000 for yearlings. Click here for more details. A major change in the National Reining Horse Association Futurity/Derby nomination process is expected to provide endless benefits for many reiners for many years to come. The Futurity and Derby Nomination Program features increased and deeper payouts, especially in the Intermediate Open, Limited Open, Intermediate Non Pro and Limited Non Pro divisions. The deadline to nominate 2008 foals – December 31 – is right around the corner and is a deadline that should not be missed by reining horse breeders.
